“A born storyteller…”
The talented jazz singer Lauren White from Los Angeles has already released 4 good-selling CDs. She was born and grew up in Great Neck, Long Island. Already at a young age she knew that singing and performing was her thing. When she got older she went for an acting career, played in various soap operas, and performed in music theater. She started singing standards and contemporary music in clubs on the New York music scene. After she moved to LA, she continued to perform on TV and in theater, but returned to her first love, singing. Her new CD is a collection of new tracks and standards that have been refreshed. For this she is joined by Chris Wabich (drums), Kevin Winard (drums & percussion), Grant Geissman (guitar), Alex Budman (horn), Francisco Torres (trombone), Tatum Greenblatt & Michael Stever (trumpet), Quinn Johnson (piano), and producer / vocalist / copywriter Mark Winkler. The title track opens and is a cover of The Crusaders. The swinging ” Till I Get it Right ‘is a duet with Mark Winkler, after which the lesser-known Ella Fitzgerald song’ Signing Off ‘is coming. Hoagy Carmichael & Johnny Mercer’s ‘How Little We Know’ from 1944 is brought in cha cha form, and Michael Frank’s ‘Monk’s New Tune’ is the next one. The relaxed ‘Coffee’ was inspired by coffee shops in LA, and ‘Midnight Sun’ is a cover by Lionel Hampton & Johnny Mercer. Charles Mingus’ ‘Ellington’s Sound of Love’ is performed with a jazzy trio, and ‘In a New York Minute’ has the swing of the city. She concludes with a slow cover of Paul Simon’s ‘American Tune’. So you get songs from the forties until now.
